The Drawing Circle

Draw together, no experience required

An open drawing group for anyone who wants to create alongside others — no experience required.

Why this project exists

This started as a simple idea — drawing is better, and easier to stick with, when it's not done alone. Instead of another solitary sketchbook habit that fades after a few weeks, I opened it up: an informal group where anyone can show up, sit down, and draw alongside other people, regardless of skill or experience.

There's no instruction, no critique, no pressure to produce something polished — just a shared block of time and a shared willingness to look closely at something and put it on paper.

How this translates into real use

This kind of group fits well as:

  • A recurring creative meetup — a regular, low-pressure reason to draw consistently instead of only "when inspired".
  • A beginner-friendly entry point — a place to start drawing again without the intimidation of a formal class
  • A community-building activity — for local creatives, hobbyists, or anyone wanting to meet like-minded people through a shared, hands-on activity.
  • Content and documentation — a real, ongoing practice that can be shared, photographed, and used to show consistency and community, not just finished artwork.

The benefit for participants

Joining a group like this lowers the biggest barrier to drawing regularly: doing it alone. Bringing people together, in person, around a shared low-stakes activity builds a habit that's hard to keep solo — and it gives people a genuine reason to slow down, pay attention, and make something with their hands, without needing to already be "good at it."
