Book Layout & Publishing Design

Print & Digital Layout for Amazon

The visual layout and formatting of books published on Amazon in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle formats

Books, Layout & Publishing Design for author Marina Paliants

Paperback, Hardcover, Kindle

I was responsible for the visual layout and formatting of books published on Amazon in paperback, hardcover, and Kindle formats.

My key contributions included:

  • Designing clean, reader-friendly layouts using Figma for wireframing and Adobe InDesign for professional print production
  • Formatting content according to Amazon KDP specifications for paperback, hardcover, and eBook (Kindle) editions
  • Applying typographic and layout principles to ensure strong visual hierarchy, readability, and consistent style
  • Adapting designs for print, ensuring compatibility across various trim sizes and binding requirements
  • Delivering fully optimized, production-ready files for seamless upload to Amazon's publishing platform

This project demonstrates the ability to merge UX/UI design principles with editorial and print workflows, delivering high-quality publishing outcomes across multiple formats.

Why this project exists

Book design sits at the intersection of two things I care about — illustration and structure. This project was a chance to take a full book, cover to cover, from the author's manuscript and illustrations to a finished, publish-ready product across three formats: paperback, hardcover, and Kindle. It's less about a single visual and more about making an entire reading experience feel considered, from the typography down to how the pages sit in your hands.

What was done

  • Designed clean, reader-friendly layouts using Figma for wireframing and Adobe InDesign for professional print production
  • Formatted content according to Amazon KDP specifications for paperback, hardcover, and eBook (Kindle) editions
  • Applied typographic and layout principles for strong visual hierarchy, readability, and consistent style
  • Adapted designs for print, ensuring compatibility across different trim sizes and binding requirements
  • Delivered fully optimized, production-ready files for direct upload to Amazon's publishing platform

The benefit for a client

Hiring someone who handles both the design and the publishing-format logistics means one point of contact for the whole book — no back-and-forth between a designer and a separate formatter, no risk of a beautiful layout getting rejected by KDP for a technical spec issue. The result is a book that looks intentional in every format a reader might buy it in, delivered ready to publish with no extra fixes needed.
